Circassian language contest – Adighabza in Tuapse

Updated: Apr 28

In the village of Agoy in Tuapse, Shapseghia children from primary schools where the Circassian language is taught participated in a language contest. The contest included various tests: children were expected to remember vocabulary, translate texts, draw and dance. Teaching the mother language in Tuapse directly links indigenous people and their history and culture.

Games and innovative techniques are widely used in education. Modern digital technology and visual aids increase the children’s engagement to learn their culture and mother language. Sabrina Ashemaz, from Agoy, Shapseghia is a pioneer teacher who created the channel “Adyghabza Secrets” on telegram. To overcome its perceived complexity, Sabrina explains Adighabza simply and funnily which is a much more effective approach to children's education.
